There are numerous domestic and exotic herbs that are suitable for using as incense - with very different scents and effects. The incense herbs contain essential oils that are released by the heat.
Most often herbs are used in mixtures with resins and woods, because they burn too quickly alone. Together with the aromatic and balsamic properties of woods and resins, the result is a balanced blend.
For example, you can mix 2 - 3 resins, 1 - 2 woods or roots, 1 herb and a flower. There are no limits to your creativity.
Herbs can also be gently burned on a sieve and a tealight. This way, there is almost no smoke and the more subtle and delicate scents of the herbs can shine.

Sweetgrass is one of the most important plants for the Indigenous peoples of North America. It is said that Sweetgrass tea helps with colds, internal aches, pains, and fevers. The scent profile is amazing with sweet, herbal, grassy, green and vanilla like notes. Sweetgrass works well with Juniper, White Sage, Copal, Thuja, Pine and Cedar.
