Our Myrrh varieties
Discover our large selection of different Commiphora species
The myrrh tree, from the genus Commiphora, is considered a cousin of the frankincense tree because they share many similarities.

And just like frankincense, myrrh is receiving more and more attention for its medicinal properties.

We have different types of Commiphora resins to offer you.
Commiphora myrrha from Somalia
The perennial classic among the many myrrh varieties
Commiphora myrrha
"Malmal" Myrrh Grade #1
We receive two grades of Myrrh that are already sorted locally in Somalia. Grade #1 are the larger pieces and Grade #2 the smaller pea-sized pieces. We exclusively import Suhul-Myrrh which means that only naturally occuring resin is harvested without injuring the tree. The color is amber and brownish. Taste is balsamic, bitter, spicy & slightly sweet.
Commiphora myrrha
"Malmal" Myrrh Grade #2
The smaller pieces of Grade #2 are also sustainably harvested without injuring the tree. Only 10 tons are available per year. The small pieces are very convenient for incense blends. The color of Grade #2 is the same as Grade #1, amber and brown. The scent profile is also balsamic, bitter, spicy and slightly sweet.
Opoponax from Somalia
Myrrh varieties with more sweetness and less bitter notes
Commiphora guidotti
Opoponax "Hadi"
The name "Opoponax" is probably derived from the latin "Opoponace" for opponent. They can actually be viewed as opponents to the classic Commiphora myrrha. The differences are that "Hadi" is more fruity and sweet with less bitterness, compared to the classic myrrh. Compared to it's brother "Hagar", "Hadi" is more fruitier, lighter, reddish and less dark than "Hagar".
Commiphora erythrea
Opoponax "Hagar"
"Hagar", like "Hadi" is also sweeter than the classic Commiphora myrrha with less bitterness. It can often be a little bit sticky. It has almost no bitterness and is very intense. "Hagar" has a high oil content. The scent of "Hagar" is very deep and mystical with a sweet and caramel like aromas and also woody notes.
Commiphora myrrha from Yemen
A rare delight of the highest quality
Commiphora myrrha
Myrrh Grade #1 from Yemen
The most well-known Myrrh of the Commiphra myrrha species is from Somalia. But Myrrh trees grow in several countries around the world, but the highest quality myrrh actually comes from Yemen. This myrrh looks and smells amazing. The resin pieces are partly golden in color and the scent is very intense. Imported directly from Yemen.

Commiphora kua

Commiphora kua is a rare myrrh variety that only grows on Socotra and is also classified as Commiphora abyssinica. It has a reddish color and is slightly translucent. It lacks the bitter scent of the classic Commiphora myrrha from Somalia and is much sweeter, but less sweet then the Opoponax varieties. It also has notes of fruit, pine and musk.
Commiphora ornifolia
Aksha Myrrh from Soctora
Another rarity that is exclusive to the island of Socotra. It is a very gentle and pleasant myrrh. The resin pieces have the classic myrrh color, but there are also reddish tears. We know from the harvesters on Socotra that this myrrh is mainly used as medicine. The scent is a blend of bitter Commiphora myrrha and the sweeter Kua myrrh.
