White fasouk
Iran
White Fasouk from Iran
White Fasoukh is related to Asafoetida and shares its pungent smell. It is mostly used as medicine and not as incense. Similar to Asafoetida the scent is very intense with notes of garlic and sulfur.

Latin name: Ferula communis

Harvest location: Iran

Scent: strong, biting, sulfurous
Description
This bright, beautiful resin is very closely related to Dorema and Asafoetida. Although it bears the name Fasoukh, it is completely different from Black Faso.

The black Faso is a fragrant resin, possibly coming from a species of spruce. The white Faso is not a fragrant resin, but like most Ferula species, it is very intense, acrid and garlic-scented, but also has a certain warmth in the aroma that the Dorema and Asafoetida lack.
Like other Ferula resins, Ferula communis (White Faso) is used primarily as a medicine and is used less often as incense.

This is certainly due to its strong aroma. When incense Ferula communis is burned, it is said to open communication with the spiritual worlds.
